White to off white granular powder

Used in ointments, creams and lotions, as a stabilizer, thickener and film-former; in jellies and salves, as a thickener, gelling agent, protective colloid and film-former; in syrups and suspensions, as a thickener and suspending aid; in bulk laxatives, because it is physiologically inert with high water-binding capacity; in mucoadhesives for its absorbency and sustained release, as a thickener and diffusion barrier. High-viscosity grades of CMC can also be used in hydrophilic matrix tablets.
