Function

Mesityl oxide is an organic building that has been used in the synthesis of 2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,3,3-trimethyldipyrrin, a crucial building block in the rational synthesis of chlorins and oxochlorins. It has also been used as a neutral marker in the preparation of imidazole-coated capillary column for electrophoresis.
