Description
Is used as an acidulant for soft drinks, particularly cola. It is used in the manufacture of cottage and processed cheese, fats, shortenings; pH control in manufacture of imitation jellies; nutrient in production of yeast; control of bacteria growth in selected processed foods; flocculating agent for clarification of sugar juices after liming process. It is also used in the manufacture of phosphate salts.
Function
Is used as a buffering agent in biology and chemicstry. It is used as a catalyst in the hydration of alkenes to produce alcohols, predominantly ethanol. It is also used as an additive to stabilize acidic aqueous solutions within a wanted and specified pH range.
